MANILA, Philippines — The Saitama Ageo Medics’ next four games in the V.League have been canceled due to COVID-19 infections within the team.

In a statement on Monday, Saitama – the team of Filipino volleyball star Jaja Santiago – said five team members tested positive for COVID-19.

“Since the morning of January 21, several people have been complaining of fever and sore throat, and when they went to a medical facility and took a PCR test, 4 people tested positive. In addition to the one announced on January 20, the number of positives increased to five,” the club said.

The rest of the team have also undergone tests and are awaiting the results.

“Saitama Ageo Medics has been working on measures to prevent the spread of new coronavirus infections, but in the future, all players, staff and related parties will take even more thorough measures.”

Saitama was supposed to play back-to-back matches against Himeji starting on Saturday before featuring in another two-game series against the Toray Arrows on February 5-6.

Santiago and the Ageo Medics are currently sixth in the standings with a 10-6 record after winning their last two games against Kurobe.
