One-Punch Man Manga puts Garo and Saitama face to face
WARNING: The following contains spoilers for One-Punch Man Chapter 158, “Watershed,” by One, Yusuke Murata, John Werry, and James Gaubatz, available in English on Viz Media.
One-punch man had a lot of highly anticipated matchups, usually consisting of Saitama or Garo. When either of these two steps into the ring, fans are sure to witness a rewarding match. After all, Saitama has already reached the pinnacle of power, and there’s probably no one in the entire universe who can match him. Garo has also gone through the Power Rankings and has recently honed his own martial arts. Chapter 158 of One-punch man finally pits these two infamous characters against each other.
When Garo first arrived on the scene, he was a crummy antagonist with suspicions of being special. Since then, he has honed and honed his fighting style through relentless battles against powerful opponents to the point of being recruited by the Monster Association. When the Hero Hunter refused, however, he was monstrous with force. His power has skyrocketed even further since then, and he got to a point where he could already defeat the leaders of the Monster Association with a single blow. Now, it looks like his next challenge is the strongest existence in the series.
After Garo made quick work of Platinum Spermatozoon, he teamed up with Metal Bat to engage Centisennin in a much longer fight. Meanwhile, Saitama dealt with Evil Ocean Water using his Serious Punch, which caused the tsunami-sized water giant to rage. Saitama kept the aircraft carrier safe by using it as a surfboard and navigating the stormy seas. When the water was about to reach the battered heroes, Saitama used the carrier as a wave breaker. He served his purpose and protected the group from the first wave before Pig God came to the rescue.
Saitama jumped out of the ship just before the wave hit and landed exactly where Garo was standing. Garo immediately noticed her presence as he wondered what happened to Evil Ocean Water. The two eyes met and Saitama asked Garo what exactly he was.
Obviously, there is no animosity between the two yet. Saitama isn’t the kind of character to attack others just because they’re a monster, either – Oculette is the living example of that. However, the same cannot be said for Garo, who has actively sought to fight opponents stronger than himself in order to hone and test his strengths. One-punch man fans can also remember that this faceoff is not their first encounter.
Back when Garo was already being chased by professional heroes, he met Saitama who was buying a wig. Garo punched him, which of course did no damage, and Saitama knocked him out using the same attack. Although it happened a while ago, chances are Garo remembers their first meeting, especially since he’s obsessed with individuals stronger than him. Remembering his utter defeat is more than enough reason for him to challenge Saitama.
One-punch man fans have long been excited for another Garo vs. Saitama clash. Garo’s exponential growth has rightly drawn attention, and his exploits have proven him worthy of Saitama’s adversary. As the Hero Hunter continues to grow in difficult situations, it will be interesting to see how he fare against Saitama. There’s also the ever-lingering question of whether he can finally scratch Saitama’s long-standing itch for a good fight.
